Dragons Blood, part 2 - Night Flight

My dear readers, I give you another piece of my dragon mosaic. Enjoy!

She paced uneasily. The searing thrill was flowing in her veins. Tips of her fingers were tingling. In her mind she begged the night to come. Arlene was hypnotizing the horizon, impatiently waiting the sky to darken. Servants were trying to avoid her when she didn't want anything. As if they knew what was going to happen...

Finally the evening sky turned black and stars twinkled. The restless lady locked the door, went out to a balcony and took off her clothes. Her pale skin reflected the starlight. Naked and beautiful she was shining like a lighthouse on the coast. Little scales on her breast were slightly sparkling and the silver covered her arms. She jumped down, whipped her tail and spread her wings. Arlene enjoyed the wind and let her body gain its full size.

She felt the wind and the firelust filling her heart. The fire gave her the life-giving energy and satisfied her wicked deity. Then she could fly and fly higher with a passion that no other living creature would ever know. Yes, her god was cruel but he provided her the ultimate pleasures. He demanded blood when the moon disappeared. It wasn't important whose blood it would be. But dragons are beautiful and proud creatures who love themselves above all, thus in the history there wasn't any dragon who would harm himself to fly.

The village slept quietly. Slumbering houses and huts were spread in the darkened valley. It was so easy to open the mouth and breathe the fire. Most of the villagers did not even realize they were melting. The smell of the gore satisfied the god for many months. Arlene waved her wings and disappeared above the mountains. She enjoyed the flight. The pines were softly whispering in the night.

She waved her wings again and after a while she sat on the ocean shore. Water was softly hissing and the waves washed the rocks steadily. Sea wavelets reflected the beauty of twinkling stars. Arlene breathed the smell of the ocean and delved into her memories. How many years she's been walking this shore, how many centuries she's been flying the sky above? She remembered the time when dragons hadn't had to hide themselves and could fly freely beneath the sunrays.

The times had changed. Arlene had to pretend to be her own daughter and she had to sneak out of her own castle every time she wanted to spread her wings. She lay on the sand and let the water wet her scales. Cool water washed away her disturbing thoughts. At dawn she slumbered in her bed, dreamed about flying and fire.
